Hi, I’m Paula Matthewson
I’ve worked in and around politics for 30 years, including four years as a Liberal media adviser from 1989 to 1993. Most of that time I worked for John Howard (after he lost the leadership in 1989), but I also worked briefly for Richard Alston in the latter half of 1993.
I mention this as a disclosure, not a credential.
Since then I’ve undertaken no paid or volunteer work for the Liberal Party, nor have I ever been a member. I don’t support any political party and I don’t vote. I have however been actively involved in Australia’s democratic processes for over thirty years, and continue to do so now as a columnist on federal politics and freelance writer.
In addition to producing weekly columns and articles about politics, I also write for corporate and government clients – anything from speeches and communication strategies to posts for social media.
I am currently a political columnist at The New Daily. I’ve also written for the ABC, SBS, Crikey, Guardian Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald.
I had a weekly column with ABC’s The Drum before it was disbanded.
My book, On Merit, was published in February 2019.
If you’d like to get in touch, I can be contacted here.
